Love Road

Love Road

Shalane Connors is Jaz in Love Road.

Ulysses Oliver’s feature directorial debut is an intense relationship drama, jumping across three time periods, detailing the highs and lows of a tempestuous relationship.

Early one morning Jaz (Shalane Connors) flees her fractured relationship with Daniel (Ishak Issa), taking her mother’s ashes with her to return them to the family’s country property. Daniel is utterly confused by Jaz’s departure, feeling that their difficulties could be resolved. He sets off in pursuit, determined to talk it over despite her steadfast refusal to engage. Jaz, along her journey, reflects on their shared moments, and with the distance between them begins to re-evaluate elements of their relationship. Traversing three time periods of this complex romance, and remarkably shot in just two weeks in the middle of the NSW bushfires, Love Road is an incisive and moving drama of love and loss.

An Ox Stand On My Tongue

Mel Ree is C in "An Ox stand On My Tongue"

Jane Montgomery Griffiths asks “What if the two most negatively paradigmatic female characters in the Western mythological canon were in fact domestic Goddesses.” A reinterpretation of infamous sisters navigating a world of men, the kitchen and all things domestic. An Ox Stand On My Tongue asks what it would sound like if these women got to tell their story today. Their history from their own perspective, what compelled them to justify – or to suppress – the experiences they had endured. This is a play about two women who try – who really do try – to be well behaved, to be the perfect housewife, but who just happen to end up becoming the world’s most notorious adulterer and Husband killing Matricide. In Greek tragedy, characters would go into song; here they discuss baking. Mundanity doesn’t preclude pain.

Five different people at different times of their lives bond at a wedding after being seated together at the singles table. After a few too many drinks, the solution to all of their problems seems to be buying a five-bedroom house together. Five Bedrooms tells the story of a group of very different people. With very different backgrounds. At very different stages of life. All bonded by where they found themselves seated at a wedding. The singles table. After a few too many champagnes (and wines and whiskeys and beers), the solution to all of their problems seems to be buying a house together. A really big, five bedroom house. How ridiculous, right? A recipe for disaster, surely? But the more they consider it, the more they realise that their alcohol infused idea actually has some merit. A small group - some friends, some acquaintances, and some total strangers - come together being seated at the singles table at a wedding reception, they a disparate lot being of different ages and backgrounds. Their casual conversation turns a bit more serious when they decide to pool their resources to purchase a house together - something none would be able to do on their own - where they all will live. Beyond finding an appropriate and affordable house that is suitable for five single adults, they will test their newfound "friendship" in each going into the home ownership and communal living situation for a totally different reason, partly having to do with their stage of life, and as up front ground rules go out the window, literally in some cases, when they find those rules don't match their unexpected needs or wants.

Proudly produced, directed and written by Jane Larkin. Jane Larkin is Annie Murphy, Layton Le Petit is Edward Proxy, Mary-Anne Halpin as Robin & Curtis Clarke as Cody.

Three young women deeply embedded in the world of competitive sport, teach the audience what it is to be a female athlete in a world of competition, a lot of it off the track, pool and gym. Yui, a Japanese Paralympic swimmer is facing the usual highs and lows of sport, mixed in with cultural differences and prejudice against her disability. Whilst able-bodied athletes respect her as an athlete - society doesn't always. Annie is a sprinter with little passion for anything else, besides perhaps her boyfriend, who has just proposed an open relationship. Finally, Sylvia is an indigenous weight-lifter, struggling with commitment and making the most not only of her athleticism, but of her brilliant mind too. Metaphorically, we're all competitors in a game of life, it's just that sport writes down the rules. Because if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
